Australian black belt Kit Dale has brought jiu-jitsu to Hollywood. White Belt — his first feature film — just had its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Dale wrote, directed, produced and stars in the 143-minute comedy, set inside a BJJ academy and shot in just 16 days with 68 cast members. Gordon Ryan flew himself out and financed his own cameo, and Isaac Doederlein appears as well.
It's a workplace comedy built to show people who have never stepped on the mats what gym life is actually like — and early premiere audiences, grapplers or not, were laughing from the opening scenes.
Would you watch a BJJ comedy?
