HOW DO WE MAKE JIU-JITSU EXCITING?
Craig Jones built CJI to save pro grappling — and even he is frustrated. The matches are high-level, the production is elite, and still: for anyone who doesn't train, it's a hard sell.
As @takedownnation put it this week: we can keep changing the rules, but athletes will always play the ruleset. More submissions didn't fix it at CJI 2 — the scrambles were the show. And with a million dollars on the line, nobody is risking the bag to entertain us.
So what's the actual fix? Shorter matches? Stalling calls with teeth? Action bonuses? Team formats? Or is it the storytelling around the fights?
